One Last Chance

Title: One Last Chance
Character(s): Rose Tyler, The Doctor
Pairing(s): Doctor/Rose
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Borrowed, sans permission.
Notes: I'm going back to my drabble roots in an attempt to kick-start the Muse; 100 words in MS-Word. All italicised dialogue is from the episode. This is unbeta-ed, so any and all errors are mine.
Summary: She wants something of him to hold on to, for the lonely times ahead.

"And I suppose... if it's one last chance to say it..."

She catches her breath, trying to stop the tears; she doesn't want his last memory of her to be of her weeping and inconsolable. She almost manages it.

She's just said she loves him; and not for the first time. "Quite right too" his response, as it's always been hitherto; a private joke between them to the end.

But if he will just say the words himself, as he often almost has, she'll have something concrete to sustain her through the darkness that she knows is coming.

"Rose Tyler..."

Oh Rose, poor Rose :(

Yeah; there's something tragic about how the Doctor didn't quite manage to get those words out in time that's more painful even than the fact they're separated.

But the thing that must have hurt him even more is having to send her away in the first place (when I saw that icon of yours properly for the first time I flinched!)

God love them, both of them, and RTD better sort it properly next season or I shall be after him!

Part of me is dreading season four because I'm afraid he'll Joss us. Again.

He had better not; the Doctor can't take that again.

I loved this too. The general assumption is that this is the first time she declares that she loves him, but that's not necessarily true, is it? Especially given the subtext of the 'baby' conversation. Just because we didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
And I so agree with you about S4. I'm so excited, yet terribly anxious about it. I dearly hope RTD doesn't mess this up...

I can believe that the Doctor hasn't actually said the words, but Rose? Nah. She's told him that she loves him on more than one occasion, I am certain of it.

Especially given the subtext of the 'baby' conversation.

I have a drabble in mind for that ... watch this space!

Just because we didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I like your thinking!

You're not the only one! If RTD messes this up ... *sighs*

I don't think anyone of us can take that again :(
