Summary: Time is the longest distance between two places.
That unfinished sentence still haunted him, and every waking hour (and for him, there were many) he spent searching for a way to finish it. That was a distraction for him, anyway, to draw his attention away from the fact that there were other things he was forgetting that he would much prefer to remember.
For example, he could remember the agonised expression on her face when she realised that he couldn’t come for her. That she really was stuck there.
He could remember that with a painful clarity, but had forgotten the exact feel of her lips under his.
