A/N: This fic follows on from This Little Bag o’ Dreams. The title is from the Pogues song Fairytale of New York.

He didn’t make it.

Thanks to that Dalek– why can’t those stinking things stay dead? – he’s lying on the ground, in an amount of pain he didn’t think possible. He’s not even sure how he’s still alive; he’d thought being hit by Dalek ray was a one-way trip, after all, even for Time Lords.

Enough of that. Rose, his whole world and then some, is cradling him in her arms; it feels so good, and the only thing he can think of is how he wants to lose himself in her again. It’s been so very long. He tries to will his hand to move so he can cup her face – the way he used to do, without even thinking– and persuade himself that she is here, and this isn’t another one of the dreams tinged with nightmare that plague him when he sleeps.

But he can’t.

He wants to focus on Rose, wants to let himself drown in her, but the pain overwhelms everything; he thinks he’ll probably regenerate soon. Just typical of his luck; she finds him again and he’ll change into someone who doesn’t want her any more.

No.

That won’t happen.

He won’t let it happen.
