The Man With The Broken Hearts

Title: The Man With The Broken Hearts
Rating: U
Character(s): The Tenth Doctor
Pairing: Ten/Rose
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] principia_coh
Spoilers: Heavy in spoilers for The Next Doctor.
Notes: The idea for this comes both from the Christmas Special and a quote from an Emily Dickinson poem (the quote in question is used as the summary for the fic to keep spoilerific stuff under the cut).
Summary: Parting is all we know of heaven, / And all we need of hell.

When parting’s all he can know of heaven,
And likewise all he’ll ever need of hell,
Maybe, someday, he can be forgiven –
For Chaos knows he doesn’t do it well!
He has companions. But they all depart,
For many reasons (not all of them the best),
’Tis their leaving, one by one, breaks his hearts;
He holds them in his mind: his sometime guests.
He tries his best. There’s none could ask for more.
(OK, there’s one or two – he’ll grant you that.
But he’s no super-hero. He has flaws.
Sometimes even his best still comes out flat!)
He’s meant to be alone. With many friends –
But everyone still leaves him, in the end.

I'm thrown off because it rhymes sometimes and doesn't other times. But the idea is very true and good. Interesting use of chaos as a deity figure. But one can certainly say that it rules over a good part of his life!

Oh, poor Doctor. I like this. Rhyme works really well for that kind of bleakness.

This is brilliant, a very accurate and telling look into the Doctor's head during that scene. Nicely done, hun
