principia_coh gave me the original germ of an idea that led to this (and two, maybe three, other mini-ficlets that will follow in due course). Summary: All he wanted was that one last chance to see her face again.
He had spent a very long time meticulously combing through the books and papers of his library, desperate to find safe passage through the Void and into her Universe in a way that meant he could bring her back with him.
It had been a welcome distraction from a level of emotional pain so deep it frightened him. It was different to how he’d felt after Gallifrey, and he simply had no idea what to do or how to bear it.
When it failed, though – as he had suspected, from the off, it might – it threw him deep into a dark depression. The fact he also had to deal with Rose’s mind broadcasting its deep distress to his just made things worse. All he wanted, now, was that one last chance to see her face again.
Was that really so much to ask for?
