Summary: You can’t always get what you want.
He discovers very quickly what sort of a man he is where Rose is concerned. Regeneration didn’t change how he feels about her; he ensured that.
Sitting at the dinner table he could stare at her for hours and still not get enough. For a few fleeting minutes he lets himself believe that he could have what he’s craved for years: to be part of a family.
To belong.
But then Rose mentions Harriet Jones. Reality crashes back in, and yet again he’s forced to deny himself his hearts’ desire. The thing he wants above all others.
The one adventure he cannot have.

Date: 2009-06-14 03:18 am (UTC)I love this line. Love how forceful it is. He must know he's setting himself up for heartbreak, but she's worth it. The idea that she's above the science and biology of a Time Lord is ♥.
The change of tone is jarring and heartbreaking and :(.
LOVELY drabble.

I am glad you liked that; I was a bit unsure of it myself. But I think The Christmas Invasion proves that whatever Nine felt for Rose, Ten feels just as strongly – if not more so; that’s the main vibe I get from the thing, if I’m honest.
The change of tone is jarring and heartbreaking and :(.
Yeah. There’s a bit, just after Rose says “that’s Harriet Jones!” where you can see that the Doctor – who’s just been shown he can have what he wants so desperately – is then, with the mention of Harriet Jones, shown why he can’t have it. And the dejection on his face makes me want to weep for him.
LOVELY drabble.
Thank you!
