Title: Long Time Passing
Rating: PG-13
Setting: post-Voyage of the Damned
Character(s): Ten. Rose (off-camera).
Pairing(s): Ten/Rose
A/N: Inspired by, but no spoilers for, 4X01 (Partners in Crime). Title from the song Where Have All The Flowers Gone? by Pete Seeger.
Summary: And yet, I think, those lies I still prefer

It's been so long, and yet the pain's still fresh
As if I only lost you yesterday;
And yet, despite the depth of my distress,
I cannot help but think it's best this way.
It's best that we now spend our lives apart,
Where I can't see how you both age and die –
Or that is what I tell my grieving hearts,
Although I know it's naught but desperate lies.
And yet, I think, those lies I still prefer;
As gloss to make the truth less hard to bear.
And my despairing mind, on that, concurs.
Oh, how I almost wish I didn't care …
It's not the same. How could it be the same?
I've nothing left of you, besides your name.

Oh. Swoon! This is wonderful! Esp the line, "As gloss to make the truth less hard to bear./ And my despairing mind, on that, concurs./ Oh, how I almost wish I didn't care…"

Poor, dear man. You nailed 'im there.

Hee!

Poor, dear man. You nailed 'im there.

And it’s vague enough that it would work as a post-JE sonnet too, don’t you think?

Yay for sonnets! ♥

This most definitely packs a punch, you've conveyed his loneliness perfectly.

I've nothing left of you, besides your name.
Definitely my favourite line, it's just so powerful and melancholy.

I adore this! Thank you for the lovely read and for directing me towards it! :)

You're welcome. I remember you like sonnets, like I do, which is why I sent you the link :)

I am pleased you like this (I like it, too; particularly the note of melancholy that goes right through it.)
