A thought (yes, another one) on Journey’s End in particular (and S4 in general)

Leaving aside that what happened is probably the nearest thing the PTB were ever going to let us have to a “happy” ending for our heroes, I’m wondering whether it might have been better for the Doctor had Rose not come back at all (and being an OTPer, that’s a hard statement to have to make).

Why am I thinking this? Because although if Rose didn’t come back the events of 4X13 might well have unfolded the same in Donna’s case (and the resolution of what to do with Spoilers for 4X13 )

if Rose had not come back would have been interesting ... would the PTB have killed him off?), the Doctor would have healed enough from the events of S2/S3 with Donna on board (the majority of the season he’s so much happier in himself) that he would have been able to walk away sad for Donna but ultimately in a much better state emotionally.

And I think I would much have preferred that to the image we have of him from the last frames of Journey’s End, thanks very much.
