Title: “You’re Not ...?”
Character(s): Rose Tyler, The Doctor
Pairing(s): Doctor/Rose
Beta(s): [livejournal.com profile] karenor
Rating: PG
Setting: Dårlig Ulv Stranden (Doomsday)
Disclaimer: Borrowed, sans permission.
A/N: 100 words in MS-Works. Any dialogue you recognise probably comes from the episode.
Summary: There’s nothing he can do about it.

“You’re not?”

Her silence is answer enough. They know each other well enough by this stage to know when the other isn’t being entirely truthful. So she knows that she cannot lie, it just wouldn’t work.

Oh, Rose.

He closes his eyes against the tears that threaten his composure. That’s briefly successful but they tear up again when he opens them and this time he can’t hide it. The universe (or chaos, or fate, or just sheer bloody bad luck) has taken everything from him, again, and there’s nothing he can do about it.

I'm sorry, Rose; I'm so sorry.

Oh, god. It's like Doomsday all over again.

Wonderfully heartbreaking, and you pack so much emotion in so little.

I was trying for pain, with a tiny wee bit of hope.

I hope that's what came through.

Oh goodness your timing is perfect since I just watched again AoG/Doomsday today. I haven't long been finished watching the beach scene so needless to say your piece is making the ache I already had is now throbbing.

:( *sniffle* I always want to cry whenever someone even mentions Doomsday, let alone writes a beautiful moment like this.

Thank you so much for the compliment! :)

(I know what you mean about Doomsday, by the way. Tears galore every time I'm stupid enough to watch it.)

Beautiful! But so sad...

Ah, but to enjoy the good times you have to have some of the sadness.

It'll all come right in the end (in this 'verse, anyway).

This, my friend, is drabble-tastic :-)

Seriously, it's just enough. No baby Time Lords running about, just that horrible realization dawning on the Doctor. Ugh--you captured it so well it *does* make my heart ache. Makes me want to watch it again. No. Well...
Thank you for this though, it's Brilliant!

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] principia_coh below, the way DT plays that line means (IMHO) that this is about the only way it could ever play out.

Of course, knowing RTD and co., they'll sort it so that this is completely AU by the end of Season Four! ;)

I'm supposed to be getting notifications when you post... *eyes LJ suspiciously*

Beautiful, understated. And how very like them to let something like that slide when they both know better.

Hee!

(I think it's taking an à la carte approach to notifications at the moment, frankly. Which is frustrating, at times.)

Beautiful, understated. And how very like them to let something like that slide when they both know better.

Given how DT played that particular line, this is really the only way I can see it panning out; even though she denies it so soon afterwards, that little bit of silence is damning, isn't it?

Ah! So short and yet so painfully real. With just a few words you had me sobbing. Poor Doctor!

Poor Doctor, indeed.

Poor Rose, too; somehow, though, she gets the better side of the deal - she has her (their?) family with her; Ten has nothing, poor darling.
